Ian is a Partner in PwC’s Vancouver office that leads the company’s BC Technology Industry Practice, which includes the life sciences sector. Since 1995, Ian has been providing tax consulting and compliance services to technology organizations that are entrepreneurial and growing, and has assisted a variety of clients with tax strategies in business transactions, whether it be business expansion, corporate reorganizations (including mergers and acquisitions), public offerings, debt financing, venture financing, reverse take overs or exits. He has implemented tax efficient international corporate structures, designed and implemented equity based compensation strategies and managed global tax compliance requirements for multinational organizations, including optimization of Global Tax (Research and Development) Incentives.
Ian has a particular specialization on transactions involving Intellectual Property, including transfers, dispositions, migrations and acquisitions. Ian also contributes to the industry and community. He likes to gain and share knowledge and has presented, lectured and is an author on many industry-related tax topics for the Canadian Tax Foundation, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, LifeSciences BC, the Vancouver Enterprise Forum (VEF) and Bio-Partnering North America. He is heavily involved in the life sciences community as well, currently serving as the Treasurer of LifeSciences BC, as Treasurer for the VEF, as a member of the Finance Committee for the Providence Health Research Trust and formerly as the Treasurer of the Transplant Research Foundation of BC. Ian holds a Bachelor’s of Commerce from the University of British Columbia. He obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1999.
