This interactive discussion covered some of the steps necessary to achieve commercial readiness including: share structuring and control thereof, tax law issues, option agreements, voting trust arrangements, shareholders agreements and securities law. Industry and Gowling WLG professionals lead the discussion.
So You Want to be a Business Development Officer
We looked at the world of business development in the life sciences industry and the connection to intellectual property (IP). David Poon, PhD, Vice President, Business Development and Alliance Management at Zymeworks Inc., Patrick Rebstein, PhD, Senior Manager, Intellectual Property at Provincial Health Services Authority and Padma Kodukula, PhD, MBA, Vice President of Business Development at Precision NanoSystems Inc., discussed their unique roles within their organizations, and business development in the science-and IP-based industry of the life sciences. The panel was moderated by Paul Armitage, partner at Gowling WLG.
IP Risk Management
With growth comes inherent uncertainty and unpredictability in the management of IP. Jay Cadieux, Vice President, Product Development & Operations at Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Brian Kingwell, partner at Gowling WLG examined some of these risks and provided a general framework and tools for assessing and managing uncertainty and unpredictability.
