On Tuesday, March 2, Bioscience Association Manitoba, LifeSciences BC, and BioAlberta held an educational session “Access Funding to Succeed.” This webinar featured speakers from key funders who explained how to access their funding programs and other assistance that they are able to provide to the life sciences sector. These programs have provided assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic and will be helpful as we work on Canada’s economic recovery.
6th Annual LifeSciences BC Access to Innovation
On Wednesday, February 24, and Thursday, February 25, 2021, LifeSciences BC marked the 6th Annual Access to Innovation Conference bringing together all stakeholders in the Life Sciences sector. The conference brought together leaders from across Academia, Research, Health Institutions, Government, and Industry. Broadly, the aim of the conference was to provide a venue for dialogue on topics of relevance to Life Sciences from Scientific Discovery, Emerging Trends, Innovation, Economic impact, Translational Science, and Policies to advance the sector.

On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, LifeSciences BC, Bioscience Association Manitoba, and BioAlberta held an educational session on “Preparing the Perfect Pitch Deck.” As we all work in a virtual world having a comprehensive and dynamic pitch deck is more important than ever. Your pitch deck needs to be able to explain your company and what you are looking for in 10 slides or less. This webinar featured great tips from industry leaders.
2nd Annual LifeSciences BC Career Connect Day presented by BioTalent Canada
On Friday, January 22, 2021, LifeSciences BC held its second annual Career Connect Day. This event helped connect life sciences companies and organizations from across the sector with university/college students and job seekers. Held virtually this year, attendees were able to connect and arrange meetings, attend virtual exhibitor booths, view presentations focusing on career development and achieving success in the remote world, as well as attend an interactive workshop on job search strategies.
Canada Gairdner Public Lecture Series: Science in the Time of COVID – International Collaboration and Canadian Success Stories
On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, LifeSciences BC held its first Canada Gairdner Public Lecture of the year featuring Dr. Janet Rossant, Scientific Director of the Gairdner Foundation. She is an internationally recognized developmental and stem cell biologist, exploring the biology of the early embryo and its stem cells and their applications to understanding and treating human disease. She has also been actively involved in ethics and public policy discussions around stem cell research and genetic modifications. She led the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children from 2005 to 2015. She has received many honours and recognition for her work, including six honorary degrees, and election to the Royal Societies of London and Canada and the US National Academy of Sciences. In 2018 she received the N. American L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science Award.
