UBC Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics
The Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT) is a UBC Research Centre with a scientific mandate to ascertain cellular and protein function relevant to human disease as the key to improved diagnosis, treatment and prevention of health problems in children and adults.
Investigators at the CMMT are working to advance understanding of the roles of environment and genetics in child and adult health and disease, and to develop new treatments and therapies. CMMT is based at the BC Children’s Hospital campus and is home to a world-leading multidisciplinary research team working on fundamental, clinical, and translational research into the mechanisms underlying genetic and epigenetic causes of disease. Our Investigators’ expertise spans genetics, neuroscience, metabolism, biochemistry, cell biology and bioinformatics.
CMMT currently comprises 13 primary investigators, including Canada Research Chairs (CRC) and BC Leading Edge Endowment Fund (LEEF) chairs, working along with >125 staff and trainees in a collegial and collaborative environment, all sharing the goal of lessening the burden of genetic disease in children and families. CMMT researchers publish in top journals and are invited to speak around the world as international leaders in their fields. CMMT discoveries have led to new therapies in lipid disorders and Huntington’s Disease.
