Providence Research is the research partner of Providence Health Care, one of Canada's largest faith-based health care organizations operating 17 health care facilities in Greater Vancouver, including St. Paul's Hospital. Providence Research enjoys a reputation as a world-class place to conduct biomedical research and is ranked 4th in Canada’s top 40 Research Hospitals. It is host to five distinct research centres and a number of clinical academic research groups. Research expertise includes laboratory, clinical, and applied outcomes research in the fields of HIV/AIDS, heart and lung disease, renal disease, gastro-intestinal diseases, psychiatry, geriatrics, urban health and addiction, and in 2024 home to BC’s only phase one clinical trails unit for non-cancer trials. Providence Research hosts more than 250 full-time equivalent investigators and nearly 1,000 research higher degree and research staff who use a sophisticated array of tools and techniques to answer complex questions relevant to human health. Our medical research is affiliated with both the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.
