New funding will Boost Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Research in BC

- A new initiative to advance research on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other neurodegenerative diseases is being launched by a group of partners – including Health Research BC.
The Advancing Groundbreaking Research in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases funding opportunity supports interdisciplinary teams working to improve early diagnosis, strengthen treatment and care, and/or deepen the understanding of common approaches between the two conditions.
Teams must include at least two researchers (a BC-based primary applicant and a co-lead), as well as at least one BC-based graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, or early-career researcher.
Teams are encouraged to embed people with lived experience in their research, with potential for top-up funding to support their participation. These perspectives help ensure research addresses real-world needs and produces outcomes meaningful to those most affected.
This opportunity is made possible by the Canada Brain Research Fund (CBRF), an innovative arrangement between the government of Canada (through Health Canada) and Brain Canada Foundation. Together in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of B.C., Branch Out Neurological Foundation, CLEAR Foundation, Health Research BC, Parkinson Society BC, and the Patrick & Dulcie Lenox Endowment, we are advancing meaningful solutions for BC’s aging population and strengthening networks between researchers, partners, and research users.
Full guidelines, including eligibility and the application process, will be available in December. For more information, visit the funding program page.
