GlycoNet Investigator Awarded X-Chem Research Excellence Award

- Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Macauley on receiving the X-Chem Research Excellence Award.
The 2025 recipient of the X-Chem Research Excellence Award is GlycoNet Investigator and University of Alberta professor, Dr. Matthew Macauley, MCIC.
The X-Chem Research Excellence Award recognizes outstanding contributions to medicinally relevant organic or biophysical chemistry. Sponsored by X-Chem, the award is presented annually to a scientist residing in Canada who has made distinguished contributions to the field.
Dr. Macauley is a distinguished glycoimmunologist whose research explores the immunomodulatory Siglec family of receptors and their interactions with sialic acid-containing glycans. His work has introduced innovative tools to study Siglec-glycan interactions and investigate their roles in regulating immune cell function. Bridging chemistry, immunology, and neuroimmunology, his research is advancing our understanding of the immune system and its implications for human health.
This achievement highlights Dr. Macauley’s exceptional contributions to the field of glycoimmunology and carbohydrate chemistry.
