UBC Medical Student Navjit Moore Receives BC Medal of Good Citizenship

January 11, 2024
University of British Columbia - Faculty of Medicine
  • UBC medical student Navjit Moore has received the BC Medal of Good Citizenship for her extraordinary contributions to community life through her extensive volunteer work over the past 10 years.

Moore, a third-year MD student in the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s Vancouver Fraser Medical Program, was among 21 awardees who received this honour from the B.C. government.

Since 2015, she has been a dedicated volunteer with the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada Fraser Valley East Chapter, and currently serves as the Chapter’s president. In her work with the organization, she has contributed to a cumulative fundraising effort of more than $100,000. In 2017, she played a pivotal role in initiating and leading a new chapter of the organization expanding its reach to offer vital support for patients, families and friends affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

“Receiving the BC Medal of Good Citizenship is an incredible honour that highlights not only individual efforts but also the collaborative spirit of our community towards positive change,” Moore said. “The support from my family, mentors, and colleagues has been invaluable. This honour reinforces the value of dedication and passion in community service.”

Moore is also a shift lead volunteer at Burnaby Hospital where she has volunteered for more than 10 years. She currently provides mentorship, coaching and support to fellow hospital volunteers. She has also provided emotional care for residents at Burnaby’s Fair Haven Homes since 2012.

“Each one of these medal recipients has made their community a better place,” said Premier David Eby. “They have shown kindness and generosity while making sacrifices for the benefit of others. Their contributions serve as a reminder to all of what we can do in ways large and small to improve life for everyone.”

Medal presentation ceremonies will be hosted throughout the province in early 2024.
